In this series of Italian Gelato shop in Lake District, Japan, we already introduced Ikeda Farm. Second gelato shop is Rapdy, Aito Marguerite station, in Higashiohmi city, the east of Lake district, Japan.

[Over 130 kinds of gelato!!]

Rapdy, the gelato shop we tell you, uses fresh milk and seasonal fruits and vegetables. Over 130 kinds of gelato! Melon, strawberry, pumpkin.. they are “normal” material. Others, green prickly ash, vicia faba, egg plant, green pepper, beer, lettuce, and so on….. You may say, “is it suitable for gelato?”

The chief cooker Takao Morino told me, “the gelato has not plenty flavor, so almost all material is suitable”. I tried “green prickly ash, the flavor of spice is soft, so it is so tasty with milk flavor. He said, many people enjoy this flavor gelato around years. But the most popular flavor is simple “fresh milk”. Of course, really yammy!

How does Takao hit the idea of gelato? Yes, beside the shop, there is fresh products shop, such as vegetables. Everyday, he checks such products to get some hints. He uses materials from Higashiomi city, or Shiga pref, or Japanese products.
He insists to make gelato, before the shop opens. So, the weekend, when much people visit, and gelato sells out? He asks milk to farm then make again.

He also makes breads, cakes, cookies and so on, from wheat flower of Shiga pref, without post harvest chemical. He will try to make such a sweets from rice powder.

Around Rapdy, there is tea house, and fresh products shop. Fresh vegetables. Konnyaku, lunch boxes, and so on. Outside, there is wide flower farm, you can take a walk and enjoy seasonal flowers, or you can enjoy picking flower programs, rape blossoms, lavender, poppy, sunflower and so on.
If you take a car, Hyakusai-temple, Saimei-temple, Kongorin-temple are there. Each of them, famous for colored leaves, called “three spots of the east lake district”.
